What’s New & What’s Buzzing
Spring is always an exciting time on Broadway, with shows opening practically every week!
Celebrity-led plays take the lead this season, but there are still some fun and exciting new musicals we can’t wait to see!

New & Buzzworthy Musicals
One of the biggest new arrivals is The Lost Boys, a brand-new musical based on the cult classic film, bringing vampires, rock music, and high-energy storytelling to the stage. Fun fact, one of our music director colleagues is the music assistant on the show! He says we are all going to love it! (PSA, this may not be appropriate for all student groups, we’ll let you know!)
Also making waves is Beaches, a new musical based on the iconic film. Filled with heartfelt music and a story about lifelong friendship, it highlights the power of connection, making it especially meaningful for student audiences and families. AND our favorite music director and friend, Paul Staroba, is currently leading the ship, conducting, and music directing! If you love big dance numbers and classic Broadway vibes, Schmigadoon! is one to watch. This musical comedy playfully celebrates classic golden-age Broadway shows, while adding its own modern humor and heart. This one is perfect for dance or theatre lovers. The more theatre history you know, the funnier it gets!
Revivals drawing attention

The revival of Cats: The Jellicle Ball reimagines the classic musical with a bold ballroom twist. Some reviews are saying the new concept is the ONLY WAY we should ever see Cats again! I’m in!
The revival of Ragtime (limited run, extensions tba) has been earning critical acclaim since opening in the fall. With its powerful music, stellar cast, and timely themes, the revival is expected to be a major contender at this year’s Tony Awards.
Still Going Strong
Long-running hits like Hamilton, Wicked, The Lion King, Aladdin, MJ, The Great Gatsby, and Six continue to draw huge audiences. And many consistently add new cast members in iconic roles.
For example, the PIT’s Isa Briones and Jeremy Jordan are joining the musical Just in Time, and Pentatonix member Kirstin Maldonado will take on Anne Boleyn in Six, bringing fresh excitement to the shows.
BUT WAIT! We can’t forget the Off Broadway hit, Little Shop of Horrors. The show continues to be a fan favorite, especially with student groups. With its catchy songs, quirky humor, and up-close, immersive theater experience, it’s a great show to add to any student trip. Casts change rapidly to keep the show fresh and exciting.
So Many Plays to See! (but you have to catch them now)
TEN plays are opening this season! Most are celebrity-driven and limited engagements. BUT, if you are in NYC this spring, highlights include Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, Fallen Angels, Proof, and Daniel Radcliffe’s tour de force in Every Brilliant Thing.
Whether you’re seeing something brand new or a longtime favorite with a new cast, Broadway this spring is full of energy, creativity, and unforgettable performances that only Broadway can deliver!
