Day 1 – Travel to Costa Rica
Today you'll begin your Costa Rica adventure to make unforgettable memories with your group. Upon arrival, you'll meet with your Tour Manager and start your adventures. As you drive, you;kk enjoy scenic views as you journey continues to your hotel in Monteverde. On the way, you will discuss the wonders of Costa Rica and how resource management affects the people of this beautiful nation.
Day 2 – Cloud Forest Hike and Aerial Tram
In the morning, enjoy a magical hike in the cloud forest. Dew clings to the fuzzy, green moss that envelops every tree trunk and vine hanging in the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve. Droplets hanging perilously from the fuzz refract the morning light before dropping to the forest floor, wet with fallen leaves. There are few places on Earth that so eloquently illuminate the power and beauty of nature than underneath the canopy in this beautiful place, where eight miles of trails weave through the 765 acres of amazing cloud forest.
After having lunch, be amazed in an incredible adventure! We will then take a beautiful gondola ride over the cloud forest. This is a wonderful unique way of viewing the cloud forest from a different perspective whilst mixing nature with adventure.
Day 3 – Transfer to Arenal, Volcano Hike and Hot Springs
You will travel in a non-traditional way from Monteverde to Arenal on a beautiful boat and horseback riding tour. You will ride in a bus to the Arenal Lake and cross by boat, then spend a beautiful morning riding along Lake Arenal on well cared for and well-trained horses with your professional guides.
Once you have checked-in, you will go on a hike through the national park. This hike takes you through three distinct environments from the old volcanic flows, to the dense jungle canopy and broadleaf underbrush. Along the way, your Program Leader will help explain the geology of the volcano and the ecology of this unusual environment.
In the late afternoon, you will enjoy the natural hot springs heated by the volcano and share stories over a delicious dinner!
Day 4 – Wildlife Refuge Boat Tour and Transfer to Sarapiquí
Your adventures today, will include a wonderful trip by boat to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge. This enchanting refuge shows some of the most important bird watching opportunities in the world. Caño Negro is also home for many sloths, monkeys, caimans, bats as well as numerous tropical plants. After a welcome drink and a snack, you will have a slowly and silently cruise to this exceptional national refuge in a comfortable boat where you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings. You will have lunch on the road and enjoy scenic views as you head to the Sarapiquí Region.
You will stay in a wonderful environmentally friendly hotel near a biological station. The primary goal of this station is to preserve and protect an intact forest, as well as providing laboratory facilities for tropical research and education. The research potential of the area is not only vital to tropical ecology but it is also an important location in the effort to study relations between local communities and protected areas. In the evening, enjoy delicious dinner at your biological station facilities.
Day 5 – Morning and night rainforest hikes
After breakfast, you will take a guided hike with a local naturalist guide in the marvelous forest of the biological station to observe wildlife and learn about the unique flora and fauna of the area
In the evening, take a flashlight and explore the nocturnal rainforest and discover a completely new forest from the one you saw during the day. You will have lunch and dinner at your biological station facilities.
Day 6 – La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Coffee Tour
On your way back to the Central Valley, you will stop at La Paz Waterfall Gardens. You will discover an aviary, a jungle cat exhibit, a butterfly and hummingbird exhibits, a monkey habitat, a serpentarium, a frog exhibit, and a reproduction of a century-old Costa Rican home before ending with the impressive waterfalls. Among the spectacular creatures visitors will encounter rainbow-billed toucans, scarlet macaws, blue morpho butterflies, white-throated capuchin monkeys, poison dart frogs, bushmaster snakes, two-toed sloths and a jaguar.
After lunch, you will visit one of the most interesting coffee tours in the area. This coffee farm has been growing coffee in Costa Rica for more than 100 years. Today, the farm uses the same century-old water mill imported from England to power their processing plant - a rustic building recently designated a historical and architectural heritage site by the Costa Rican government. The tour begins at the seedbed, where visitors learn about the farm's history, the coffee trees and the planting process. The tour's highlight is the coffee tasting! The farm produces eight coffee blends that range from smooth to bold.
In the late afternoon, you will arrive to your hotel near the airport.
During your final evening, you will celebrate with a farewell dinner reminiscing about your time shared together in Costa Rica.
Day 7 – Depart
Today your Costa Rica adventure comes to an end as you depart for your flight out of San José.
